Bandon Trip

January 30 - January 31

Bandon, Oregon on January 30th.

Well, were still on and here’s the current itinerary for the weekend.

Date Activity Notes
Friday, 01/30/2026 Arrival Check into your accommodations; giving you time for sunset shoot at Bandon Beach; and join us for a group dinner.
Saturday, 01/31/2026 Full-day photography opportunities While you’re visiting some of the key locations, many photographers normally break out in mini groups, and some will opt to shoot alone as they want to practice their creativity; that evening we will join up for another sunset shoot on the beach; and head over for a group dinner afterwards.
Sunday, 02/01/2026 Wrap-up & departure This is the last official day of the get-together weekend, although some photographers will stay around for another day or two.

Some of the Key Shooting Locations in the area:

  • Bandon Beach & Face Rock: Dramatic sea-stacks and tidal pools for sunrise and sunset scenes.
  • Coquille River Lighthouse: Panoramic vistas and opportunities for wildlife photography.
  • Bandon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge: Chance to photograph birds and unique wetland habitats.
  • Bandon Old Town: Historic architecture and vibrant local culture for street and detail shots.

The tide charts indicate that there will be higher tides mid-morning, and lower tides in the evening for sunset. Here’s the link for the Tide Charts for the Bandon area.

Since, good photos often come from bad weather because storms, fog, and dramatic clouds create unique drama, atmosphere, and emotion that clear skies lack, allowing photographers to capture moody seascapes, unique light, and compelling stories, despite the challenges of cold or wet conditions. In the meantime, here’s some weather links to follow.

  • Be sure to check tide schedules and weather forecasts before each shoot.
  • Observe all local guidelines and respect wildlife habitats.

Accommodations include local inns, hotels, or vacation rentals within Bandon. Remember, Steve and Susan Dimock are members of  the EPS club, which also happens to own the LaKris Inn in Bandon. You can check with them at 541-347-3610 or book a room on their website.

If you’re a camper, Bullards Beach State Park, OR currently has some camping spots available, and there’s also a couple of Yurts available.

The only group events will be a Friday night group dinner and a Saturday night group dinner after we leave the beach from sunset (around 6:30pm). This allows some of our more serious photographer’s stay on the beach a little long after the sun does down.  Also. We found that many of the venues that offer breakfast and lunches we’re unable to accommodate our group size, so we’ll leave them to the induvial photographer and mini groups to decide on.

Since we’re talking about the group dinner, I (Carla) am now needing a head count by January 15th, so I can get idea on the attendance for the group dinner.

One we get a head count on the 15th; we will put together a group email for group coordination which we will need to exchange contact numbers.  A group text will be sent out on the evening on the 28th, and this will be the group text that we will use through the weekend to communicate (if you decide to join us after the 28th, we cannot guarantee that you will be incuded on every group text – and, if you decide not to go and you’re on the group text from the 28th, we will not be able to delete you from all the text (and fun) that we’re having throughout the weekend.

Lastley, like last year, please understand that this photographer get-together, and not a workshop. This get-together is for get you out by networking and sharing ideas with the other participants. All participants are responsible for arranging their own shooting locations and logistics. We encourage your participation and foster an inclusive and safe environment for everyone going. We hope this outline gives you some insight of what to expect, however, some level of planning needs to be on the photographer, to get the most out of the weekend.
